Mobile Air Transport || Excellence in Design 2007

With raging e-commerce and a global economy, people are shipping things everywhere all the time and most need their items delivered yesterday! That’s where Mobile Air Transport shines. With a great reputation and facilities across New York State, Mobile Air had outgrown their 20 door Albany facility and it was time for a major addition- and fast! Nestled under the control tower just outside the boundary of the Albany International Airport, this air-to-ground shipping company called in Munter Enterprises and American Buildings to expand their flagship terminal.

After a 5,500 square foot conventional addition and 5,000 square foot renovation to their existing offices, it was time to add on to the terminal. In the shipping business efficiency is everything and those packages don’t deliver themselves- it takes logistics, people and trucks. Quite simply, trucks need doors to get loaded and on the road! Adding on to the existing circa 1990 Butler non-expandable column and beam endwall was no simple measure. American designed a simple, and smart, fly-rafter system to support the existing light weight rafter so the columns could be removed creating the un-obstructed floor space required. With an additional 24 doors and 9,900 square feet, Mobile Air can really move some shipments!

American’s spandrel braced, 60’ clear span, with a Standing Seam II roof and 5’0 finished overhangs on both sidewalls protect the dock shelters nicely and make the building a great package in itself!
